Cybersecurity at Boutique Advisers: Protecting what matters most

Scam Awareness Week 2025 (25–29 August) is a timely reminder that cyber threats are real, persistent, and evolving. At Boutique Advisers, we take cybersecurity seriously, as a core part of our commitment to protecting our clients, our team, and our business.

Why cybersecurity matters in financial advice

As a financial advice firm, we handle sensitive personal and financial data every day and therefore lead by example in how we protect that data.

With support from our Managed Services Provider, Inspired IT, we’ve implemented a multi-layered cybersecurity strategy that aligns with best practices and regulatory expectations, including the Australian Cyber Security Centre’s Essential Eight and ISO/IEC 27001 certification.

Client facing security: Your wealth portal

Our client portal is more than just a financial dashboard, it’s a secure environment designed with your safety in mind:

  • Bank-level encryption and layered security infrastructure.
  • Read-only access ensures your money cannot be moved or modified.
  • Multi-factor authentication for added login protection.

Our journey to essential eight level 1 maturity

We have implemented Essential Eight Level 1 Maturity, a foundational cybersecurity framework recommended by the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC). This level ensures we meet minimum security standards across eight key areas:

  1. Application Control – Preventing unauthorised software from running on our systems.
  2. Patch Applications – Keeping software up to date to close known vulnerabilities.
  3. Configure Microsoft Office Macro Settings – Reducing risks from malicious macros.
  4. User Application Hardening – Disabling unnecessary features that attackers exploit.
  5. Restrict Administrative Privileges – Limiting access to critical system settings.
  6. Patch Operating Systems – Ensuring our systems are secure and current.
  7. Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) – Adding layers of protection to user logins.
  8. Regular Backups – Ensuring data can be recovered in case of loss or attack.

Other ways we safeguard our business and clients

  • Microsoft 365 security hardening with multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all users.
  • Email domain protection.
  • Vulnerability scans and testing to simulate real-world threats.
  • Our data is securely stored, backed up, and recoverable.

Scam Awareness Week: What you can do

This Scam Awareness Week, we encourage everyone to:

  • Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) on all accounts.
  • Be cautious of unsolicited emails or messages.
  • Regularly update passwords and software.
  • Report suspicious activity to authorities or your financial adviser.

At Boutique Advisers, we’re proud to be proactive, transparent, and committed to keeping your financial world safe.
